Xabi Alonso provides fresh injury update on Moises Caicedo

Alonso on Caicedo’s fitness

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided a fresh injury update on midfielder Moises Caicedo before the Carabao Cup third-round tie against Leeds United at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

The Blues suffered their first defeat under Alonso last weekend. They took an early second-minute lead against Arsenal in the Premier League, but the Gunners came from behind to secure a 2-1 win.

Caicedo was once again absent with a lower-leg injury, and Alonso has now confirmed that the Ecuadorian won’t be involved against the Whites tomorrow.

However, the Spanish tactician refused to rule out Caicedo’s possible comeback when the Blues host Hull City in the Premier League at the weekend.

He said: “Potentially, yes, but we need to wait. Thursday or Friday we will know more.”

Alongside Caicedo, summer signing Marco Palestra has been sidelined since pre-season. It appears unlikely that the Italian will be deemed fit for the Hull game.

Palestra may have to wait longer to make his Blues debut.
