Alonso on Hato sub

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has revealed the reason behind the early substitution of Jorrel Hato against Hull City on Saturday.

The Blues played out a 2-2 draw against the Tigers at Stamford Bridge. They took an early lead before conceding twice from defensive errors.

Chelsea managed to share the spoils in the end, but Blues fans will be disappointed with the club’s inability to beat a newly promoted side.

Hato had a forgettable game for the Blues. He was largely responsible for the opening goal, and his half-time removal did not come as a surprise.

Speaking after the game, Alonso confirmed that the decision to sub out Hato early was tactical as he wanted a player with a different profile.

He said: “Tactical. We wanted a player with another profile, that with Pep [Chavarria] and Jorrel, it’s different and that was the decision.”

Chelsea remain fourth in the league table with seven points, but could drop further down the standings before their next fixture at Brentford.
