Tolu Arokodare has completed his initial loan move to Ajax from Championship side Wolves. 

Arokodare’s deal with the Eredivisie giants includes an option to buy for £17m, just a year after joining from Genk for a reported £24m transfer fee. 

The 25-year-old’s move comes almost a week after it was reported Cesar Peixoto ended a training session due to Arokodare refusing to participate.

It was suggested that Arokodare sat down on the pitch and demanded he be allowed to join Fiorentina, though the striker strongly denied those claims.

However, he has since been allowed to leave Wolves, having scored just six goals in 38 appearances across all competitions last season. 

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Arokodare told Ajax’s club website. “Since I was a kid I have known about the club, but I never imagined myself playing for this club.

“Not because I didn’t want to, but it’s such a big club. In Nigeria, not a lot of people watch the Dutch league but everybody knows about Ajax.”

Ajax have reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding the loan signing of Tolu Arokodare. The 25-year-old striker joins Ajax on a one-season loan deal until the summer of 2027. The agreement includes an option to buy for Ajax.

Arokodare joins an Ajax side that finished fifth in the Eredivisie last term and will play in the Conference League in 2026-27, if they come through the play-offs. 

They already boast a 4-1 lead in their second qualifying round tie against Serbian side FK Vojvodina, with the second leg taking place this Thursday. 

Ajax begin their Eredivisie campaign on August 9 away to PEC Zwolle.
