What’s Your Irrational Fear? | Cup of Jo

Today, I’m curious: What’s your irrational fear? What gives you the shivers? What makes you want to sprint in the opposite direction? My answer is easy…

ELEVATORS. Gahhhhhh.

I first wrote about my elevator phobia almost two decades ago. Since then, I have taken elevators exactly *checks notes* 16 times — and that’s only when stairwells were inaccessible. Otherwise, I’m happy to take the stairs no matter what floor. I once climbed 33 flights to see a therapist. (“See how much I need you???” I told her, panting, when I arrived.)

In France, I’ve seen some truly teeny elevators. Here’s my mom in Paris. And here’s a video I took of another one. Reader, we did not get in.

Kelsey bravely rode this one during her honeymoon!

So, tell me: What’s your irrational fear? Any other elevator-haters out there?

P.S. A trick for remembering people’s names, and do you ever ghost after a party?
