India captain Shubman Gill added another memorable chapter to his England tour after making an appearance at the Wimbledon Championships 2026. The stylish opener, who is in England ahead of India’s upcoming ODI series against the hosts, took some time away from cricket to witness one of the biggest events in world tennis. While his presence at Centre Court drew plenty of attention, it was his interaction with Swiss great Roger Federer that soon became the biggest talking point on social media.

Gill was among the distinguished guests invited to the iconic Royal Box at the All England Club, where he watched the action alongside cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife, Anjali Tendulkar. The visit further highlighted the growing crossover between cricket and global sporting events.

Shubman Gill’s interaction with Roger Federer goes viral

One of the standout moments from Gill’s Wimbledon visit came when he met 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer. A video capturing the two sporting icons greeting each other and sharing a brief conversation quickly made the rounds on social media, delighting fans across the world.

The heartwarming interaction sparked widespread reactions online, with many celebrating the meeting of two stars from different sporting disciplines. Gill later shared photographs from his visit, including one featuring himself alongside Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar inside the Royal Box.

Gill’s invitation to the Royal Box also placed him in elite company. He became only the fourth Indian cricket captain to receive the honour after Sachin, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Reserved for distinguished personalities from the worlds of sport, entertainment, politics and public life, the Royal Box is regarded as one of Wimbledon’s highest honours for invited guests.

Gill enjoying memorable England tour ahead of ODI series

Before attending Wimbledon, Gill also experienced his first-ever Formula 1 race after receiving a VIP invitation to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Indian skipper enjoyed exclusive paddock access and interacted with several members of the Formula 1 fraternity during the race weekend.

Gill will now shift his complete focus back to cricket as India prepare for the three-match ODI series against England, beginning on July 14. The right-handed batter heads into the series in excellent touch after producing a string of impressive performances in recent matches and will once again be expected to lead India’s batting unit.

His memorable outings at two of Britain’s biggest sporting events have only added to what has already been an eventful England tour, with fans now eagerly awaiting his return to the cricket field.
