Barbados Tridents were hoping for a strong start after being asked to defend a modest total against Jamaica Kingsmen in their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 playoff clash. However, the Tridents quickly found themselves under pressure when Brandon King was dismissed without scoring in the opening over. King walked in looking to attack from the outset but could not get his innings going. Hassan Khan bowled a short and wide delivery outside off, tempting the opener into an aggressive cut shot.

Rovman Powell produces sharp reflex catch

King struck the ball firmly but failed to keep the shot down, sending it towards the left of cover. Rovman Powell reacted quickly, sticking out both hands and holding on to a difficult chance to give Hassan the breakthrough. The dismissal came off the fifth ball of the innings, with King departing for 0 off five deliveries. Powell’s sharp effort gave Jamaica Kingsmen an early boost and left Barbados Tridents without the start they would have wanted.

The early wicket was part of a difficult start for Barbados Tridents, who slipped to 30 for 5 inside seven overs. Jamaica Kingsmen’s bowlers made regular inroads, leaving the Tridents in serious danger of being bowled out for a low total.

Maaz Sadaqat powers Jamaica Kingsmen into Qualifier 2

The wicket of King was followed by a counter-attack from Quinton de Kock, who scored 71 off 49 balls to give his side some hope. Chris Green provided crucial support from No. 7, remaining unbeaten on 57 off 44 deliveries as the pair helped Barbados recover. Their partnership took the Tridents to 144 for 6 at the end of their 20 overs. Hassan, Saim Ayub and Hunain Shah picked up one wicket each, while Andre Russell finished with two.

Jamaica Kingsmen made light work of the chase thanks to a sensational innings from Maaz Sadaqat. The Pakistan batter smashed his maiden T20 century, scoring 112 off just 49 balls with nine fours and eight sixes. Sadaqat reached his fifty from only 22 deliveries and continued attacking after surviving an early chance on 16. He later took apart AM Ghazanfar by hitting three consecutive sixes in the fifth over before bringing up his hundred from 44 balls.

Although Daniel Sams eventually dismissed Sadaqat for 112 in the 14th over, the damage had already been done. Kirk McKenzie finished unbeaten on 22 as Jamaica Kingsmen reached 145 for 1 with 35 balls remaining, securing their place in Qualifier 2.
