The moment arrived on the 72nd ball of Birmingham Phoenix’s innings when leg-spinner Calvin Harrison tempted Smeed into another attacking stroke. Looking to clear the boundary once again, the left-handed batter failed to middle the shot, sending the ball high towards the deep.
Stationed near the ropes, Overton judged the trajectory perfectly before timing his leap to perfection. The tall all-rounder stretched above his head with both feet off the ground and safely completed a stunning overhead catch just inside the boundary cushions. He could not hide his smile after pulling off the spectacular effort as his teammates rushed over to congratulate him.
The dismissal ended Smeed’s entertaining innings of 51 off just 28 deliveries, which included two fours and three sixes. Although the wicket slowed Phoenix’s momentum briefly, the home side had already laid a solid platform.

Birmingham Phoenix overpower Trent Rockets in six-hitting spectacle
Phoenix rode on a sensational batting display to post 214/4, with Joe Clarke leading the charge through a blistering 68, while Smeed added a quickfire half-century at the top. Rehan Ahmed and captain Donovan Ferreira continued the assault in the latter stages as Birmingham smashed 17 sixes, matching the tournament record for the most maximums in a single innings.
In reply, Trent Rockets launched an aggressive chase through Ben Duckett and Finn Allen before Birmingham fought back with timely wickets. Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq proved instrumental in the middle overs, while Scott Currie and the bowling unit kept applying pressure despite Tom Banton’s explosive 67 off just 32 balls.
Harrison remained the pick of the Rockets’ bowlers with figures of 2/27 and even finished their innings with two consecutive sixes, but his all-round efforts were not enough to prevent Birmingham Phoenix from sealing an impressive 10-run victory in one of the most entertaining matches of The Hundred Men’s 2026.
