The Duleep Trophy 2026 quarter-final between North Zone and West Zone produced an excellent fielding moment as the two sides battled for control at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. North Zone had posted 251 after being bowled out in their first innings, but West Zone’s response got off to a difficult start as their top order failed to build a substantial partnership. Amid the early pressure, Ayush Doseja grabbed the spotlight with a sharp diving catch at gully to send Harvik Desai back to the pavilion.

The dismissal came when Arshdeep Singh found enough movement to trouble Desai. The West Zone batter attempted to punch the delivery through the covers but could only manage an edge. The ball flew towards the gully region, where Doseja reacted instantly and threw himself to his left. Doseja managed to get both hands to the ball while diving and held on successfully to complete an impressive catch. The effort ended Desai’s stay after the batter had scored just three runs from 17 deliveries.
The wicket was particularly important for North Zone as it came during a period when West Zone were already struggling to establish themselves in the innings. Arshdeep had provided valuable support to the attack, while Doseja’s excellent effort ensured another wicket fell without the need for a difficult bowling finish.

North Zone put West Zone under pressure after posting 251
North Zone had earlier been bowled out for 251 in 66.5 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Their top order struggled to put together long partnerships, but Ayush Badoni changed the momentum with an attacking 51 off 57 balls. Anshul Kamboj then produced a powerful late-innings contribution, smashing 60 from 52 deliveries with five sixes to take North Zone beyond the 250-run mark.
West Zone’s bowlers had enjoyed a productive outing, with Tushar Deshpande and Tanush Kotian claiming four wickets apiece. However, their batters could not replicate that performance in the first innings. Prithvi Shaw made 22 before departing, while Desai’s three-run dismissal added to the early pressure. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was also removed for five, leaving West Zone’s top order in trouble.
Abid Mushtaq then made the situation even worse for West Zone. The left-arm spinner delivered an outstanding spell of 4/21 from 18.5 overs, including nine maidens, and dismissed both Gaikwad and Urvil Patel in the same over. Shams Mulani’s 45 provided some resistance, while Musheer Khan remained unbeaten on 31 from 126 balls. Despite their efforts, West Zone were 137/6 and still 114 runs behind North Zone, with only four wickets remaining in their first innings.
