Walmart Finds to Get the Pottery Barn Halloween Look for Less

Every year, Pottery Barn comes out with their iconic collection of Halloween decor that hits the perfect combination of creepy and chic. The only downside is that most of us would need to take out a loan to afford the cost of decking out our entire homes in all those pricey PB pieces!

Fortunately, we don’t need to spend the big bucks to get that Pottery Barn Halloween look when Walmart has brewed up a ton of affordable Halloween decor that gives off the same vibe.

A fair amount of Walmart’s Halloween collection will get you that Pottery Barn look for less with a one-and-done purchase — and it’s often even cuter than the more expensive option! However, other decor will require a little bit of DIY to get the vibe just right, but the savings are well worth the extra effort.

Our fave strategy is to invest in your fave Pottery Barn piece that you know you’ll use year after year (maybe it can even be out in your home outside of Halloween!) and then sprinkle in these Walmart options for an affordable balance.

How to get the Pottery Barn Halloween look for less with Walmart Deals

Below, we’ve compiled our favorite finds from Walmart, along with any DIY details you need to know to craft the chicest-yet-creepiest Halloween house on the block (and all on a budget too).

Ghost Serving Tray

The inspiration: Gus the Ghost Stoneware Multi-Condiment Server ($59 at Pottery Barn)

Gus the Ghost boos his way through a lot of Pottery Barn’s Halloween decor, including this cute condiment server for a whopping $59. Walmart, however, offers its own trio of adorable ghosts on a much more affordable ceramic serving tray. It’s more versatile, too, with space to serve everything from candy and cookies to chips and dip for your Halloween party.

Skeleton Candy Bowl

The inspiration: Skeleton Candy Bowl ($199 at Pottery Barn)

This Skeleton Candy Bowl is delightfully creepy, but I wouldn’t shell out nearly $200 for it. The good news is that you can easily hot glue the largest of these posable skeletons around this punch bowl and hit it all with a quick and easy coat of this metallic silver spray paint to get the exact same vibe. (Just don’t use this to bowl to hold any drinks or unwrapped food as it wouldn’t be food-safe; stick to wrapped candy and the like instead.)

Light-Up Ghost Wreath

Lit Ghost Wreath from Pottery Barn

The inspiration: Lit Ghost Wreath ($89.50 at Pottery Barn)

If you’re down for a little DIY, this cute-but-$90 ghost wreath from Pottery Barn is actually pretty easy to make with a handful of craft supplies from Walmart. Just hot-glue some foam spheres to a wreath form, wrap a string of battery-operated fairy lights between and around the spheres, then drape each sphere with a square or two of white gauze secured with a little more hot glue on the backside of the wreath. Finally, finish with black felt features to make your ghosties as cute or as spooky as you want.

Ghost Dog Mugs

The inspiration: Doug the Dog Stoneware Mugs ($60 for four at Pottery Barn)

Doug the Dog is a Pottery Barn icon, and he looks super cute on these mugs with his jack-o’-lantern trick-or-treat bucket. While $15 isn’t bad for a coffee mug, these are sold as a set, so if you only want one mug, this Walmart alternative fits the bill. Walmart’s Halloween lineup features a pup that’s available for just $4.76 per mug. (Bonus: There’s a matching cookie jar too!)

Terracotta Jack-O’-Lanterns

Handmade Terracotta Jack O' Lanterns from Pottery Barn

The inspiration: Handmade Terracotta Jack O’ Lanterns (up to $119 for one at Pottery Barn)

These gorgeous terracotta pumpkins can cost you up to $119 each at Pottery Barn, but — you guessed it — a little DIY and some supplies from Walmart can net you a whole pumpkin patch for way less. Walmart’s in-house brand Way to Celebrate has several affordable jack-o’-lanterns of varying sizes and expressions. (Their availability may vary so we’re including them all below.) You could stop right there, but if you prefer PB’s gray stone style — or if you want to add more of a textured terracotta look — these stone spray paints can add a bit of dimension to elevate the vibe.

Ghost Icon Tumbler Glasses

The inspiration: Ghost Icon Tumblers ($38.99 for four at Pottery Barn)

Icon tumblers are persistently some of the trendiest home goods, but their designs are so hyper-seasonal that it’s tough to keep up with the cuteness while on a budget. Fortunately, these adorable ghost charm drinking glasses from Walmart’s in-house brand Way to Celebrate are just $11.48 for a pair — and just as cute as Pottery Barn’s for a fraction of the price (even during a rare PB sale).

Skeleton Cheese Board

Skeleton Cheese Board from Pottery Barn

The inspiration: Skeleton Cheese Board ($99 at Pottery Barn)

This creepy cheese board from Pottery Barn is one of the coolest entries in the PB Halloween collection. But why pay $100 when you can recreate it for less than a third of the price at Walmart? This coffin-shaped serving board is cool on its own (thanks to the subtle skeleton engraving), but it’s made even better when you supplement it with this bag of bones — specifically a hand or two. The proportions won’t be the same as the PB cheese board, but that arguably makes it even better! The skelly hand will be more realistically sized in this case, as if the undead is reaching for just one last bite of charcuterie before slithering back to the underworld. (Relatable.)

Light-Up Hanging Ghosts

Lit Hanging Ghosts from Pottery Barn

The inspiration: Lit Hanging Ghosts ($89.50 at Pottery Barn)

While this trio of Pottery Barn boo-ers is very cute, it’s hard to rationalize spending $90 on gauze and less than a foot’s worth of black felt ovals. But don’t worry — you don’t necessarily have to DIY this one since Walmart has an even better pair for about half the price. Aside from including two 48-inch long ghosts, these Walmart specters also have posable joints — so you can make them a little more menacing with outstretched arms or keep them looking as friendly as Casper.

Skeleton Hand Glasses

Silver Skeleton Double Old Fashioned Glasses from Pottery Barn

The inspiration: Skeleton Double Old Fashioned Glasses, Silver ($29.50 at Pottery Barn)

Why pay double the price to sip your Halloween libations from this creepy-chic drinkware when you can get a nearly identical skeleton glass at Walmart? And for Walmart’s price, you can actually afford to get a full set to serve your friends, too!

Light-Up Flying Witches

Lit Witches from Pottery Barn
Image: Pottery Barn

The inspiration: Lit Witches ($99.50 for two at Pottery Barn)

Similar to the ghost wreath DIY above, you can easily recreate this nearly $100 pair of “flying” witches for a lot less with some elbow grease and many of the same supplies from Walmart. First, drape the string lights over the foam ball (aka the witch’s head) and then cover it all with enough black gauze that it will drape down and become the witch’s dress. Try to concentrate the majority of the lights so they’ll dangle below the “head.” Then, gather and tie the gauze together below the ball (a long piece of ribbon or thin wire should work) to create the witch’s shape and secure the fairy lights in place. Finally, attach the ready-to-hang hat to the gauze-covered ball; hot glue along the inner rim and/or a few long pins above the brim and through the foam should do the trick. (Bonus: You’ll have enough witch hats left over to start your own coven.)
