Veiga wanted by Villarreal

Villarreal have made an opening bid to sign Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Portugal international has his sights on a new challenge away from the Blues, having failed to secure a regular starting role.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus and he is now expected to leave the Blues on a permanent basis.

Villarreal have today made a proposal for the versatile defender, but the Blues believe the offer is way below their expectations.

Veiga has opened the door to joining Villarreal due to their Champions League status, but a deal is unlikely to go through.

It remains to be seen whether the La Liga outfit make a renewed approach for Veiga or pursue an alternative target this month.

Borussia Dortmund are also keen admirers of the 22-year-old, but they are only exploring a loan deal with an option to buy.

Chelsea prefer to sanction his exit permanently.
