Vicario fulfils ‘lifelong dream’ with Juventus loan

Guglielmo Vicario says he has fulfilled a “lifelong dream” after joining Juventus on a season-long loan from Tottenham.

Vicario will join Luciano Spalletti’s side for the 2026-27 campaign, with Juventus having an €8m buy option at the end of the campaign.

Juve have spent this transfer window searching for a new goalkeeper, with Emiliano Martinez and Zion Suzuki linked with the club before they turned their attention to Vicario.

The Italian had hernia surgery back in March and had not featured for Spurs under Roberto De Zerbi, falling out of favour with Antonin Kinsky preferred.

“It’s truly a great feeling, because it’s a lifelong dream,” he said, as quoted by Alfredo Pedulla.

“I’ve dreamed and hoped for this moment since I was a child. Obviously, you never know for sure that you’ll be able to achieve it, so I’m incredibly proud of myself, and of my family, for having achieved it.

“Because, for me, having the opportunity to represent Juventus is the most ambitious thing you can ask of life, so this is what I’m most keen to emphasise, because representing these colours, this club, this history is a huge responsibility that I’m absolutely delighted to take on, and I feel it from the heart.

“It’s something I still struggle to achieve, but I’m extremely happy.”

Vicario made 117 appearances for Spurs after joining from Empoli in June 2023, keeping 23 clean sheets in that time.

He also played a key role in helping Spurs to the Europa League title in 2024-25, starting nine of their 15 matches en route to lifting the trophy.

Vicario, who has five caps for Italy, previously made 73 appearances in Serie A across his spells with Cagliari and Empoli.

The 29-year-old could make his debut for Juventus this weekend when they open their Serie A campaign against Frosinone on Sunday.
