Dungeon Crawler Carl really does feel like it’s everywhere right now, and it’s difficult to think of a relatively recent original creation that’s just as worthy of that spotlight. The sci-fi fantasy LitRPG was created by Matt Dinniman, and follows the humans who remain after they were forced underground when an alien corporation destroys Earth’s surface.
There, they are essentially forced to survive in the dungeon that was created for them as part of an intergalactic reality show watched by billions of aliens from across the universe. That’s obviously an extremely cool premise, and it’s no surprise that it has now picked up so much momentum for adaptations into other mediums.
Now, the latest of those has been confirmed, and it’s due for a full launch later this year.
Over on the Renegade Game Studios website, the company has confirmed the upcoming release of Dungeon Crawler Carl Unstoppable. If you weren’t familiar with it already, Unstoppable is a card-crafting and roguelike deck-building board game that’s specifically designed for one player.
Part of the company’s Solo Heroes series, it can also be played with two players, though it is nice to have an option for those days when it’s difficult to get your friends together. In letting fans know a little about what they can expect from this latest effort, the company shared the following description:
“You Will Not Break Me… This version of Unstoppable is set in the 18-floor World Dungeon of the Dungeon Crawler Carl novel. Fight your way through mobs and bosses as Carl or Princess Donut! Play solo or bring along a friend for a co-op crawl!
“With this card-crafting system, each card is a sleeve with swappable parts. You’ll craft and customize your cards as you play! The power curve in this “momentum builder” gives you a fighting chance against the threats you’ll face.
“Explore a single floor of the World Dungeon each time you play. This box contains the first three floors. In true roguelite fashion, however, only a few benefits that you purchase with XP will carry over to the next floor!”
The game is currently available for pre-order, with an as yet unnamed date in November currently pencilled in for dispatch to customers.
That’s not the only game that Dungeon Crawler Carl fans have to look forward to, with the official roleplaying game also available for fans to pick-up. That’s launching with three additional minis sets, in what should be a surprisingly broad offering for the fledgling TTRPG.
