Tunisia 1-3 Netherlands – Dutch win to set up Morocco match-up

The Netherlands flew out of the blocks to beat Tunisia and set up a cracking last-32 World Cup tie against Morocco.

After storm warnings in Kansas City threatened kick-off, the game did start on time and the Dutch wasted no time racing into a two-goal lead.

An own goal from Ellyes Skhiri was added to by Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey as Ronald Koeman’s men took a tight grip on Group F.

Striker Hazem Mastouri headed Tunisia back into the game after the break but another header from Jan Paul van Hecke sealed the win and top spot.

The Dutch were guaranteed to finish in the top two but sewed up the group and will now play the Atlas Lions in Monterrey on 29 June.

Tunisia were already eliminated and finish with three defeats and a miserable -10 goal difference.

The Netherlands took just three minutes to go ahead.

Deenzel Dumfries, who terrorised Sweden, put in another devilish cross looking for Brobbey which captain Skhiri could only turn into his own net.

The new Real Madrid signing has been superb in the tournament and should give Jose Mourinho some serious options on the right along with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

And four minutes later the powerful Brobbey fired in after Virgil van Dijk headed a free-kick back across goal.

It was his third of the World Cup from just his third shot at a World Cup. Clinical.

The second half was played in heavy rain and Dumfries went close to a third on his 75th cap but a powerful shot was bravely charged down.

As the rain continued to fall Tunisia struck back. Nobody marked Mastouri from a corner and he thumped in a header.

But eight minutes later more slack defending led to Van Hecke’s header sailing in via another deflection – but the goal was given to the recent Tottenham signing.

Tijjani Reijnders hit the crossbar with a clever improvised lob as the Dutch saw out victory.
