If you’re a Star Wars fan with Xbox Game Pass, then you’re in luck, as Xbox Game Pass not only has several options for you to choose from, but also some of the best options. Whether you’re looking for a fun family game or a solo RPG, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

That being said, if by chance you have somehow never heard of these games, you may have no idea where to start, especially since you can’t always rely on something like a Metacritic score to give you all the answers. A number of factors need to be weighed, including how a game has changed since launch, how it compares to the other options, and what type of game you’re looking for.

Star Wars: Battlefront Is A Solid Reboot, But Has Its Flaws

Kicking things off first is Star Wars: Battlefront, which is definitely the most split of the bunch when it comes to reviews. Star Wars: Battlefront is an action shooter EA reboot of the 2004 game of the same name, in which players join as either a member of the Rebel Alliance or an Imperial Stormtrooper and fight the opposing side.

For the most part, it seems players are divided between those who feel they can’t get enough and those who think it’s worth skipping altogether. The biggest critiques, by far, are regarding the game’s lack of balance, lack of playable heroes at launch, and some of the new mechanics introduced from the classic version of Star Wars: Battlefront. The lack of content at launch was especially critiqued when it was revealed that there would be additional content, but only through a paid Season Pass.

However, Star Wars: Battlefront still has plenty to offer, especially for Star Wars fans. Most notably, the atmosphere is incredible. As soon as you’re dropped into a match, you can immediately feel that everything from the sounds to the visuals has been finely tuned to create the level of immersion that players are always looking for.

That being said, Star Wars: Battlefront is several years old now and does have a sequel that is a bit more welcoming to new players with a larger player lobby, so that might be the better way to go if you have no preference. Otherwise, you’ll likely spend a fair amount of time waiting for online matches that will be filled with veteran players.

Star Wars: Battlefront II Faced Initial Backlash, But It Is Still The Better Option

Even though Star Wars: Battlefront II has a low user rating, this is largely based on initial impressions and disappointments, and I still think it deserves a place over its predecessor on this list, even if only slightly. For the most part, Battlefront II was hit with a ton of negative responses at launch for feeling a bit like a pay-to-win game that didn’t deliver on everything it promised.

The campaign was a bit lackluster, and overall, it felt as though there was a quantity over quality mindset that didn’t fix any of the concerns players had with the first game. In fact, it actually made some of them worse, as several players felt as though Battlefront II was littered with the same microtransactions that had already been ruining the game industry for some time.

All that being said, this still comes in just over Battlefront since there is still more content here, and Battlefront II is simply a good game. Not to mention, the lobbies are fuller and less punishing, so you’ll have a much easier time trying to get into the game than you would if you began with the initial Battlefront game.

The immersion is still incredible, and the atmosphere is nearly unmatched by any other Star Wars game, so if you’re a major Star Wars fan, this is still likely to be a pretty enjoyable game overall. However, if you’re simply just looking for a Star Wars game, I’d recommend checking out some of the other options on this list first.

Star Wars: Squadrons Lets You Join The Fight Without A Lightsaber

As with most Star Wars games, Star Wars: Squadrons is yet another game that centers largely around aligning yourself with either the Empire or the Rebel Alliance and fighting the opposing side. However, as you might be able to infer based on the title, rather than being on the ground with a lightsaber in hand, Squadrons lets you join the fight as a pilot.

Unfortunately, there is a bit of a learning curve for new players, and even on lower difficulties, I can almost guarantee you’ll need some time to adjust. At launch, it was advised that newer players learn through multiplayer, as other players were also learning, but unfortunately, at this point, I would say both online multiplayer and single-player AI are bound to be equally difficult.

Overall, Star Wars: Squadrons isn’t necessarily a groundbreaking game, even just within the Star Wars franchise, but it is still a worthwhile thing to experience if you’ve always dreamed of piloting your own fighter across the galaxy, and probably a must-play for Star Wars fans. Not to mention, since it’s on Game Pass, you’ve got nothing to lose.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Is A Strong Start To A Great Series

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is where this list starts to go, from games that are great for Star Wars fans to games that are just great for anyone. Cal Kestis is arguably one of the most interesting characters the Star Wars franchise has seen in some time, and while the mechanics of the game may not be what everyone was hoping for, there’s no denying this is an incredible setup for a new series of games.

The story follows Cal Kestis on his journey to recover a holocron that will help him and Cere rebuild the Jedi Order and finally bring down the Empire. If you keep up with all things Star Wars, the story itself takes place canonically after the events of Revenge of the Sith and before the events of Solo.

Although a great story can’t completely overshadow some of the gameplay elements that could have used a bit more refining, the pros of this game certainly make up for the cons. If nothing else, I’d at least highly recommend playing Fallen Order for the sole purpose of playing its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, which is by far one of the most incredible Star Wars games out there.

LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Is An Endless Good Time

LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga is a unique game compared to everything else on this list, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less deserving of a higher rank on this list. If you’re familiar with the massive collection of LEGO games that exist, of which there is one for just about every major franchise, then you probably already know what to expect when getting into this game.

This won’t be the same gritty experience you get from other Star Wars games, but instead will be a lighthearted take on the events that span across all three trilogies. That’s right, this game will take you through the story of the prequels, original trilogy, and sequels, offering a ton of content to get lost in for hours.

Plus, if you have a younger child or sibling who enjoys Star Wars but maybe isn’t ready for something as brutal as Battlefront or Squadrons, Skywalker Saga is perfect. Even the darker scenes offer a more lighthearted and often comedic take, so nothing in the game is taken too seriously, and there are plenty of things to do and collect, and it, of course, offers a co-op option.

Even if you’re more of a casual Star Wars fan who keeps up with the main story but doesn’t necessarily invest in all the additional content and lore, this is an incredible turn-your-brain-off kind of experience that I personally can’t get enough of.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Delivers A Star Wars Story Unlike Any Other

Finally, topping out the list is Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. I’m not sure where to even begin with this entry, as it is so widely beloved by Star Wars fans and even non-Star Wars fans looking for a fun RPG. After getting to know Cal Kestis in Fallen Order, Survivor takes you even deeper into the story, years after the events of the first game, as you continue working to build a new Jedi Order and bring down the Empire.

Since most of the characters and the general idea have been well-established by this point, this is where you finally get to experience Cal’s character development. While grappling with the pressures of the Dark Side that threaten to overcome him, Cal struggles to find his identity as a Jedi separate from the Jedi Order. Jedi: Survivor is where Cal truly makes history by establishing himself as one of Star Wars‘ most iconic characters.

However, the real selling point beyond the story, which was already incredible in Fallen Order, is that it finally delivers on the gameplay mechanics that were lacking in its predecessor. The customization of your weapons, both cosmetically and mechanically, allows you to create an experience that feels unique to your preferred style of combat and even offers a level of replayability.

Overall, Jedi: Survivor‘s expansive world, varied combat methods, strong enemy encounters, and intense story make it a standout among Star Wars games, especially those on Xbox Game Pass. If you play nothing else on this list, this is the one to play, even if you just read a synopsis of Fallen Order and jump in here, although I wouldn’t advise that.
