2. Rohit Sharma – 162

The first West Indies batter on the list is Desmond Haynes, who scored an unbeaten 152 from 126 balls against India at Bourda in Georgetown on March 21, 1989.

Haynes hit 12 fours and six sixes, producing a strike rate of 120.63.

At the time, the innings represented an outstanding display of controlled aggression. Haynes was one of the premier opening batters of his era and was renowned for his ability to combine patience with powerful strokeplay.

His unbeaten 152 stood as the highest individual score in India-West Indies ODIs for more than two decades.

It was only when Sehwag exploded for 219 in 2011 that Haynes’ record was finally broken.

5. Shivnarine Chanderpaul – 149 not out

Shivnarine Chanderpaul completes the top five with an unbeaten 149 from 136 balls against India at the VCA Ground in Nagpur on January 21, 2007.

The left-handed batter struck 16 fours and three sixes during his remarkable innings, recording a strike rate of 109.55.

Chanderpaul was known for his unusual stance, exceptional concentration and ability to occupy the crease for long periods. His 149* demonstrated those qualities while also showing his ability to accelerate when required.
