Tom Hardy’s 140-Minute Martial Arts Drama Secures Major Streaming Redemption After $23M Failure

Tom Hardy‘s action-packed drama is now a streaming hit, and this means the movie is finally finding redemption after a quiet box office run back when it was released in theaters. The list of fan-favorite Hardy movies and TV shows runs long. That includes hit projects like Inception, Dunkirk, Peaky Blinders, Mad Max: Fury Road, and many more. Even when a movie is partly criticized, as was the case for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, Hardy tends to find a way to shine all the same, and his version of Bane has continued to inspire other takes on the DC villain.

Recently, Hardy came to find renewed success on streaming through the return of his hit crime thriller series. Upon the release of MobLand season 2 on September 18, the hit show, which also has names like Guy Ritchie, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan attached, shot up on streaming charts. Currently, MobLand is the 4th most-watched TV show on Paramount+ nationwide. As such, the fact that Hardy has seen an older movie redeem itself on streaming years after it was originally released, with Warrior now a streaming hit, coming right as MobLand rises with season 2’s return is the perfect development.

Tom Hardy’s Warrior Is Coming For A Streaming Crown

At the time of writing, Warrior has become the 10th most-watched movie on Lionsgate+ in Canada. That is not the only country or platform the Hardy mixed martial arts movie is currently trending in. To go with its surprise return as a streaming hit on Lionsgate+ in Canada, Warrior has also found itself on the Top 20 Movies chart for two different nations on the Apple TV Store over the course of the previous week. That includes Hardy’s drama ranking as high as #16 in Lebanon and #14 in Qatar on the Apple TV Store chart.

As for the movie’s availability nationwide, Hardy’s Warrior can be streamed on Lionsgate+ through Amazon Channels, Howdy through Amazon Channels, and for free with ads on VIX in the United States. Warrior is one of Hardy’s universally beloved movies. The sports drama stands at a high 84% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 191 reviews. That score saw Warrior earn the coveted Fresh label on the review aggregator. Hardy’s action movie also boasts an even better audience score, with Warrior currently standing at a near-perfect 92% with viewers. That positive reception explains why Warrior has found new life on streaming.

The MMA Drama Wasn’t The Biggest Hit

Warrior‘s newfound success on Lionsgate+ comes as a welcome turn of events for the Hardy mixed martial arts movie, as it was not a box office hit. Based on a reported budget of $25 million, the gritty action drama needed to finish its theatrical run between $50 million and $62.5 million to break even. That projection accounts for the film’s production budget, its marketing spend, and other expenses. However, Warrior only racked up a shy $24.2 million in theaters despite the positive reviews and audience reaction to the Hardy drama. Now, 15 years later, Warrior has finally found redemption on streaming.
