The Wind Waker Officially Returns This Month

The journey of The Wind Waker really has been an entirely atypical one since it first debuted over two decades ago, back in 2002/03. At the time of its release, it’s safe to say that a large portion of the player base really weren’t too happy with what they got, largely due to a tech demo that had been showcased as part of the GameCube’s launch cycle.

That demo showed off a gritty and realistic future for The Legend of Zelda with the increased hardware capability of the console, and when The Wind Waker arrived with its cartoon style, that proved to be too much of an aesthetic difference for some fans to overcome. Since then, things have changed significantly, and fans are arguably more positive about its place in series history than they have ever been before.

That might explain why a new release is set to, in part, pay tribute to the game, alongside some of the other all time great games from the franchise.

As reported by Game Rant, toy manufacturer Takara Tomy has confirmed the upcoming release of The Legend of Zelda Historical Charms+, a series of Triforce-shaped personal markers or keychains that reference games from across the franchise’s history. There are twelve to collect in total, with the only caveat being that they are only available via Gachapon machines in Japan.

That means there will be a certain amount of RNG involved in getting your hands on all of them, though each go will only cost 300 Yen (~$2). Each Triforce features a unique character from one of twelve games, with the full list of titles included as follows:

  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
  • Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • Zelda: The Wind Waker
  • Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Zelda: Skyward Sword
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake
  • Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

That gives players everything from the cartoonish charms of The Wind Waker, to the heady realism of Twilight Princess, and new-era charms of Breath of the Wild, allowing it to cater to players of all generations. This is the second time Takara Tomy has brought out a range of this ilk, with the first run going ahead all the way back in 2017.

In that instance, there were only six games to collect, and the designs came in more traditional ball keychains, making this the superior option by a distance.

Zelda Young Link With Sword
Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake Master Sword.

Outside of that, we don’t have too long to wait for the November release of the Ocarina of Time Remake, which brings back one of the most beloved games in The Legend of Zelda series to date. If it can capture even a fraction of that magic, then it could really be a month to remember.
