The Unmarked Vault Is A New (Free) Officially Backed Expansion

Bearing in mind that it has been over 10 years since it originally released, Fallout 4 is doing a stellar job of continuing to provide new experiences for players. While we can’t put it alongside Skyrim in that category just yet, a decade at the top is still nothing to be sniffed at, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down in 2026.

It’s a good thing too, with the next game in the series still likely years away, after Bethesda confirmed that it has officially entered the pre-production stage. Though the developer hasn’t released much in the way of new content for Fallout 4 in a long time, the community is on hand to keep bringing us players stellar new experiences.

Bethesda Creation Club

Over on the Creation Club (which remains controversial due to its monetization of mods, which have historically been free), you should be able to find The Unmarked Vault. The download, as the name suggests, takes place in one of the franchise’s notorious vaults, where all kinds of nefarious things have been known to happen.

The vault is found deep beneath the town of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, where the residents have mysteriously disappeared. It will be your job to find out exactly what happened to them, and when you do manage to complete the quest, you’ll be rewarded with a fully functional vault settlement for your troubles.

The full list of features included on the download page is as follows:

  • A lore-friendly quest that uncovers the history of a mysterious, unmarked Vault
  • An expansive dungeon that transforms into a fully functional interior Vault settlement upon completing the quest
  • Achievement and trophy friendly
  • Functional reactor with a pre-installed power grid that supplies every room in the Vault
  • Scrap almost everything! Corpses, skeletons, grime decals, and environmental effects such as dust, mist, and sparks can all be cleaned up by scrapping nearby debris
  • Direct fast travel to and from the Vault once the settlement has been unlocked

The ability to clean the place up is perfect as an intrinsic feature because there is a lot of mess that’s accumulated over the years, and it will never truly feel like home until you’ve spruced it up.

Happily for dedicated Fallout fans, there are at least plenty of exciting projects coming down the pipeline. As well as the aforementioned Fallout 5, we also have remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas on the way. The third season of the show is also in production, so hopefully we’ll at least have plenty to tide us over until the next big release.
