The Unexpected Color – Julia Berolzheimer

Outfit Details: Carolina Herrera Top, Skirt & Bag (similar here), Sauer Necklace (last seen here), Prada Pumps (old, similar here & here), Sherman Fields Earrings

It’s rare that I get dressed and leave the accessories to be thrown on at the very end. There’s usually a bag, a shoe, or even a piece of jewelry that I’m genuinely excited to wear, and more often than not, that’s what keeps an outfit from feeling overly ‘done’. It brings in that sense of the unexpected I’m always after.

One way to get there is by introducing a color that wouldn’t be the obvious choice. It might echo one shade from a vibrant print, or it might introduce a bit of contrast that sends the outfit somewhere entirely new. In that way, accessories become less about finishing the look and more like finding the missing puzzle piece, the one you didn’t know you were looking for until it clicks into place. That’s usually where my favorite combinations begin.
