The Sun’s Dominion Officially Announced

HBO’s Game of Thrones may have wrapped up years ago now, but the network is far from finished with the franchise, with several spin-off series already taking us on new adventures across Westeros. House of the Dragon‘s final season is gearing up to give audiences a unique adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel, while season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms can’t come soon enough.

Game of Thrones could very well see multiple other adaptations in the future as well, though recently it seems that the rumored Arya spin-off isn’t likely to happen anytime soon given GoT star Maisie Williams apparently doesn’t know anything about the project. That said, anything is possible in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, especially after projects like The Mad King stage play and the upcoming Aegon’s Conquest film have taken the franchise into new mediums entirely.

One exciting new release that’s scheduled to arrive this month, however, takes Game of Thrones fans south of Westeros for a brand-new adventure with beloved characters such as Margaery Tyrell, Nymeria Sand, and Oberyn Martell (via GoTL).

Major changes are coming to Game of Thrones: Legends after Zynga announced a massive overhaul earlier this month, introducing a completely reworked faction setup and reorganizing many Champions into new groups. One of the newest faction additions to the game is The Sun’s Dominion, which will “unite the south of Westeros under one banner” and distinguish certain key players from those included in The Stormlands, which are famously considered Baratheon territory.

“This faction will play heavily around POISON and RENEW … damaging and healing over time as they outlast their foes,” and will host the following Champions from across Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon:

  • Areo Hotah
  • Criston Cole (Personal Escort)
  • Criston Cole (The Kingmaker)
  • Margaery Tyrell
  • Nymeria Sand
  • Oberyn Martell
  • Olenna Tyrell
  • Otto Hightower

The broader update is designed to address several long-standing issues with the Legends faction system, particularly with rosters and the number of Champions who previously had no faction affiliation at all. Zynga’s goal is for every Champion to eventually belong to a faction while also ensuring each group has enough recognizable characters to make it appealing to players.

No current Champions will lose a faction they’re already part of, although some will gain a second one, with the game limiting you to a maximum of two factions per Champion. Smaller groups are also being significantly expanded or reworked, including the Boltons becoming The Way of Whispers, the Free Folk expanding into Beyond the Wall, the Greyjoy faction evolving into Lords of the Tide, and the Brotherhood Without Banners becoming The Scattered Banners.

The overhaul also comes with substantial gameplay changes intended to make the expanded faction system easier to balance. Seventeen additional Legendary Champions are receiving dual-faction status, though faction bonuses will now have diminishing returns when multiple bonuses are active on the same team.

Zynga is also standardizing several faction buffs and introducing new stats including Gem Resistance, Crit Resistance, and Resilience. Elsewhere, Poison is being corrected so that it consistently deals damage based on an opponent’s maximum health, while the new Charge keyword is being introduced to improve stamina strategies, particularly for Free Cities teams.

Altogether, this Game of Thrones: Legends update is meant to open up more viable team combinations while giving previously underused factions deeper rosters, and it ushers in a brand-new era of gameplay for the critically acclaimed mobile RPG.
