The Promised Prince Officially Revealed

Game of Thrones fans are feeling a bit disoriented after the recent House of the Dragon finale, with the series introducing an interesting new ripple in regard to The Song of Ice and Fire prophecy after Rhaenyra’s High Valyrian speech in the final episode. The prophecy has long foretold the coming of the Prince That Was Promised, a legendary savior expected to emerge from the bloodline of Aerys and Rhaella Targaryen who plays a crucial role in defeating the Night King’s army.

HBO’s Game of Thrones ultimately left the figure’s identity deliberately ambiguous, with both Jon Snow and Daenerys fitting important pieces of the prophecy while Arya Stark ultimately killed the Night King. House of the Dragon has now complicated matters further, and, after revealing Aegon the Conqueror’s secret dream to the people of King’s Landing (though they probably couldn’t understand her), Rhaenyra goes beyond claiming responsibility for protecting the realm and fully claims the title for herself.

This serves as a major departure from Fire & Blood and suggests Rhaenyra has begun interpreting the ancient prophecy as proof of her own divine destiny rather than simply a responsibility inherited alongside the Iron Throne as her father suggested. If the finale has you curious to learn more, The Promised Prince is a newly revealed, limited-time event that fans can check out now (via GoTD).

The Promised Prince is one of several seasonal events released for Game of Thrones: Dragonfire that served as companion pieces to Season 3 of House of the Dragon. There were roughly a dozen or so different events that launched over the past few months alongside each episode, but in a new announcement, each of these unique special events has been revealed with an accompanying description:

Denied a crown, Rhaenyra seized her destiny in blood and fire, declaring herself the promise meant to save the realm.

Further, players will be able to claim the corresponding “watch-along” rewards for each episode, which, for the finale and The Promised Prince event, is a unique Premium Key that players can use to unlock exclusive content. Every “watch-along” reward from Season 3 will be available to claim until October 1, and can be claimed by linking your Dragonfire and HBO accounts and watching the episode itself.

Additionally, Dragonfire players will be able to claim a unique “Season 3 Finale Chest and Event” until August 24, which will include exclusive rewards only available for the next few days. Also, if you claim every “watch-along” reward by watching each House of the Dragon episode and linking your accounts, players will be able to unlock and claim Caraxes, Daemon’s fan-favorite dragon who has been recreated faithfully in Game of Thrones: Dragonfire.

While the limited-time celebration for House of the Dragon season 3 in Dragonfire won’t give us any new answers regarding the Prince That Was Promised, it’s one way fans can connect more deeply with the show while we wait for the final season to arrive.
