Not your usual DIY sidewalk chalk paint recipe and under $1, too!
If you’re wondering how to make sidewalk chalk paint that actually looks vibrant and is mess-free, try this DIY! Start by grabbing this 98¢ pack of chalk at Walmart and use items you already have at home for an inexpensive activity that makes for hours of fun!
I can’t stop staring at how adorable our sidewalk looks and how well this paint turned out!

DIY SIDEWALK CHALK PAINT
1
Place a piece of chalk in each Ziploc bag and crush with a hammer until powdery.
2
Dump chalk powder into tray or cup and add 1 tablespoon of corn starch to each color.
3
Start with 1 tablespoon of water for each color (add more if the paint seems too thick). Mix well.
If you like the consistency, start painting! Enjoy!
Extra tips for making this DIY sidewalk chalk paint recipe:
- The more corn starch = the more vibrant the paint looks and the longer it will stay on the sidewalk!
- If you don’t have a divided tray at home, you could use a muffin baking pan, or individual cups or bowls.
- This paint can be “reactivated” with water if you don’t use it all up the first time!
- Looking for paint brushes with a fun “stamp” brush? Try these!

We have tried many chalk paint recipes, but this one is my favorite! I love that you can make it for under $1, but also that the recipe is fail-proof, and the paint consistency turns out perfectly.
My kids had a great time ‘painting’ instead of dealing with chalk that easily breaks and gets on their clothes and hands 😉
