A Taylor Sheridan collaborator is joining MobLand season 2.

Co-created by Ronan Bennett and Guy Ritchie, the hit Paramount+ series premiered last year, chronicling warring British crime families and the exploits of fixer Harry Da Souza, played by Tom Hardy. Also starring Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, MobLand season 2 is set to continue the action with an array of returning stars and fresh faces.

Per TV Insider, Tobi Bamtefa is among the newcomers for MobLand season 2. Bamtefa, who has starred in all four seasons of Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown, is set to play a character named Dog in MobLand. Little is known about Dog, but the character is said to work with Harry and his crew. Images from the new season, included below, show Dog interacting with Zosia (Jasmine Jobson) as well as the season’s new villain, Frankie (Johnny Flynn).

Bemtefa made quite an impression with his role as Deverin “Bunny” Washington, a Crips gang leader, in Mayor of Kingstown, regularly appearing opposite Jeremy Renner on the hit Sheridan crime series. Bamtefa is expected to appear in Mayor of Kingstown season 5, which is confirmed to be the show’s final outing. The final episodes don’t yet have a Paramount+ release date.

Where Sheridan is known for operating in the neo-Western genre and for a unique brand of crime drama, Ritchie, too, has put his stamp on crime-driven storytelling. Though Ritchie’s crime projects are often distinctly British and feature dashes of dark comedy, Bamtefa, who is British, evidently has the genre experience to make this a seamless transition.

MobLand‘s new season consists of 10 episodes, and it’s already confirmed to not be the end of the story, with season 3 now officially confirmed. Whether Bamtefa appears in the third outing, however, remains to be seen. Picking up after the MobLand season 1 ending, season 2 follows the Harrigan family as they descend further into civil war, with Harry once more at the center of the action. The official season 2 story description is as follows:

In Season 2, the Harrigans struggle to show a unified front as rising rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire – and Harry Da Souza, their street-smart and formidable ‘fixer,’ must walk a dangerous tightrope when tensions within the family intensify. As violence spills into every corner of their lives, loyalties snap, safety proves temporary, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy.

As for season 2, the response to the show’s sophomore outing has been overwhelmingly positive so far. Though generated from only five reviews, season 2 currently has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Greg MacArthur’s MobLand season 2 review for ScreenRant is glowing at nine out of 10, with the season hailed as an improvement over its predecessor in almost every way. Dubbed an “electrifying triumph,” with praise aimed at the pacing, action, increase in scale, and Flynn’s new villain. MacArthur writes:

Although MobLand season 2 has only just begun, its current trajectory gives it a very real avenue to becoming one of the best gangster-fueled crime series of the 21st century. Whatever flaws you might have spotted in its debut season will be far gone afterthoughts once you experience the first four episodes of MobLand season 2, as the series has not only sharpened its pace and picked up its slack but has also elevated itself into a more prestigious realm of streaming television.

Though questions remain about how Dog will factor into season 2, Bamtefa is evidently joining a series that is really hitting its stride in its sophomore outing. With experience working with both Sheridan and Ritchie, the Mayor of Kingstown actor could be about to become an even bigger presence in the world of TV.

MobLand season 2 premieres on Paramount+ on September 18, with new episodes releasing weekly on Fridays.
