Steam Makes 3 Exclusive Downloads Completely Free For 48 Hours

Steam is constantly giving away free games and products, whether its huge triple-A RPGs that get reduced by 100% in a flash sale or new items to decorate your profile with. However, getting access to all of it is tough, as users have to be fairly vigilant or else risk missing out on a substantial amount of the free goods. It is easy to overlook a completely free indie, fail to download a new avatar before it disappears, or let a whole event pass you by, especially for those with busy schedules.

While not all the best free Steam games and downloads are time-limited, many of them are. Sure, it is unfortunate that these kinds of discounts and limited-time events prey on our collective fear of missing out, but it at least gives users a reason to boot up Steam every now and then, and the payoff for, frankly, very little effort, is a stocked library and a swanky-looking profile. Fortunately, three more downloads are being made available completely for free, but, as aforementioned, there’s only a short window of time to grab them.

As part of the ongoing Steam Train Fest 2026 event, that is, as one can infer, celebrating all things trains in video games, Steam is, more or less, giving away three exclusive downloads for free. While there are plenty of other great free Steam games available and even demos to try during the event, these downloads are actually rather easy to overlook, as they’re cosmetics for the prospective downloader’s Steam profile, rather than full-blown video games.

Of course, that doesn’t mean they’re any less important, as these cosmetics are the perfect option for train enthusiasts or those simply looking to spice up their Steam profile. There are three different items up for grabs, with each one costing a few thousand Steam Points to get. For those unaware, Steam Points are a currency unique to Steam which is obtained through purchasing products through the platform directly. Users will get roughly 100 odd points per $1, and will likely already have enough to obtain these aforementioned train-themed downloads without even realizing it. Here are the available downloads:

Chug Along Animated Avatar – 3,000 Steam Points
Full Steam Avatar Frame – 2,000 Steam Points
All Aboard Animated Sticker – 1,000 Steam Points

These downloads can be obtained via the official Steam Points store and are available until the Steam Train Fest 2026 event ends on July 27. If you wanted to get all three items, you’d need 6,000 Steam Points, which equates to roughly $60. One triple-A game will get you enough points to unlock them all, although obviously it isn’t worth going out of one’s way to buy an expensive game just to get these downloads. At that point, they cease to be free.

For those with enough points, these extra Steam downloads are a small little bonus that are worth grabbing before the event closes. Of course, they’re not quite as exciting as the many other huge free Steam games, but they’re around perpetually, and these are only available for a short while and easy to miss, so far more deserving of being spotlighted. Plenty more will be added to the Steam Points store in the future, so it’s always worth keeping an eye out.
