Stabler and Benson’s will they/won’t they romance in Law & Order: SVU has been addressed by Christopher Meloni in a very quick fashion. As Law & Order: SVU season 27 approaches, so does the possibility of Meloni’s Elliot Stabler reuniting with Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson. There’s been more romantic tension between the pair in recent years, given their closeness.
Now, Meloni has taken to X to respond to a fan of Law & Order: SVU, Kathy Costello, who tells him Stabler needs to kiss Benson already. The actor responds by saying he’s “f***ing trying,“ confirming that he too wants their relationship to go somewhere beyond the friend zone. Check out what Meloni posted about Stabler and Benson below:

Even One Of The Stars Wants It To Go Further
Meloni’s expression of hope for Stabler and Benson’s relationship growing into a romantic one confirms it’s not just viewers who want to see the pair get together. While the pair were a dynamic duo in the early seasons of Law & Order: SVU, their relationship never progressed into romance because of their circumstances outside their jobs.

Mariska Hargitay’s Dream Benson & Stabler Scenario Is The Worst Thing That Can Happen To Law & Order
Mariska Hargitay’s take on when Benson and Stabler should get together is at odds with the reason this pairing is the series’ most popular.
However, in more recent times, the pair have had sparks of potential romance together, especially after Stabler returned in season 22, following his leaving after season 12. This has continued into the Stabler’s spinoff series, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which has somewhat addressed the relationship between the pair and how close they’ve been getting since his return.
In Law & Order: SVU season 24, the pair almost kissed, with Benson pulling away before they could. Since then, they’ve continued to work together on occasion, despite the different storylines that have kept them apart. While Stabler’s focus has most recently been on his issues in Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5, the pair’s romance is still possible.
Our Take On Meloni Trying To Get Stabler & Benson Together In Law & Order
Will He Succeed At Making The Pair A Couple?
While Meloni is interested in getting Stabler and Benson together soon, Hargitay’s latest statement indicates she wants to see them get together once Law & Order ends. However, given the length of the series so far, that might not happen for quite some time. This makes it all the more exciting that Stabler’s actor wants the duo to get together.
Given the chemistry between the pair and how well they’ve played off one another throughout their time on the show, it would only make sense for Law & Order: SVU to someday address their romance head-on. Their romance could be presented uniquely, too, their deep trust of each other and long history together making for an intriguing dynamic.
Law & Order: SVU premieres Thursday, September 25 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
