Split Fiction Meets Capybaras In Amazing New Steam Game

A new game set to be released on Steam soon feels like a mix between Split Fiction and capybaras, and fans of cozy games will want to have the upcoming title on their radars. There are several games that fit that category on the gaming platform, and among them are different types of gameplay experiences. The 10 best cozy games on Steam, for example, offer various methods of relaxing, depending on what makes you feel calm and wholesome while playing.

Cozy games aren’t for everyone, but for those who do enjoy the genre, they can provide a great time. Some of them are good ways of winding down, while others are better at providing entertainment with a lower level of investment. There’s a free multiplayer cozy game on Steam that is great for chilling with friends, for example. Now, there’s a new potential release on the horizon, and Screen Rant had the chance to test it during Gamescom LATAM 2026.

Capy Castaway Feels Like A Low-Stakes Cozy Game

Capy Castaway is a new cozy game developed by Kitten Cup Studio and published by Big Blue Sky Games. Set to be released on Steam, the title puts you in control of a capybara pup and a crow, who work together to solve puzzles and help other lost animals after a devastating flood. The big thing about this game is that it can be played solo or in co-op mode.

If you play in solo mode, which was what happened during our test at the event, you can control both Capy and Corvi, each of which moves around using the thumbsticks on the controller. If you are playing in coop mode, each player controls one of the two characters, who have to work together to complete missions, like in Split Fiction. As a person who can’t really feel calm while playing cozy games, Capy Castaway’s demo at Gamescom LATAM 2026 was a pleasant surprise.

My issue with cozy games is that I usually feel pressured to complete everything in due time, and it ends up being a stressful race against the clock rather than a calming experience. This is the reason I simply cannot connect to the ever-popular Stardew Valley, for example; cozy games aren’t really low stakes. Capy Castaway does push multiple missions upon you, but you never really feel pressured to complete them.

In spite of the real-life time pressure of the event, I never felt rushed to complete the missions and felt that I was able to take the game at my own pace, exploring without any negative consequences for my curiosity. The commands for Capy Castaway are also very simple, which helps with the concept of feeling chill while playing, and it made me think it could be a great game to play with friends or even a young family member.

Apart from its entertaining gameplay, Capy Castaway is also a beautiful game with clever level design and adorable NPC interactions. Even with a short testing period, it’s clear to see that a lot of care and effort were put into making this one of the cutest upcoming games.

Capy Castaway Is Catered To A Large Audience

After the playtest, Screen Rant also sat down with Sam Quiño, head of marketing for Big Blue Sky Games, who talked a bit more about Capy Castaway at Gamescom LATAM 2026. “It’s very wholesome and cozy, but it’s actually very profound,” explains Quiño, referring to the environmental issues that the game portrays. “The themes of community, friendship, and belonging in that state of calamity are also central to Capy Castaway.

Quiño explains that the simplicity behind the controls in the game is a result of taking into account “the differences in motor skills,” referring to the fact that the game can easily be played by both adults and children. Capy Castaway never really feels like a game designed exclusively for children, but one that dialogues with that and other audiences.

The game does not yet have a scheduled release date, nor is it known if there will be a demo that would allow players to check it out for free. Even so, Capy Castaway already feels like a great game that cozy gamers should wishlist and keep on their radars on Steam.

Screen Rant’s attendance at Gamescom LATAM was sponsored by Abragames.
