SL vs IND: Fans slam Yashasvi Jaiswal after falling for a duck on Day 4 of Galle Test

The fourth day of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle began with the hosts making an early impact with the ball. India were hoping to build a strong position in their second innings, but Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal for a duck gave Sri Lanka an immediate boost. The opener attempted to attack a delivery outside off but failed to get enough behind his shot, leading to a disappointing end to his brief stay.

Yashasvi Jaiswal comes under fire after three-ball duck

Jaiswal faced only three deliveries before his innings came to an end. Asitha Fernando bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off that encouraged the left-hander to play the cut. Jaiswal moved his weight back but showed very little foot movement while attempting the shot. The ball turned away more than he expected and caught the edge of his bat. Niroshan Dickwella reacted quickly behind the stumps and completed an excellent diving catch to send the Indian opener back.

Jaiswal departed without scoring, with the dismissal marking his seventh duck in Test cricket. His shot selection quickly became a talking point among fans, with many criticizing him for attempting an attacking stroke without properly assessing the conditions. The dismissal was particularly disappointing given that Jaiswal had shown promising signs in the first innings. He scored 32 from 37 deliveries and looked to maintain his aggressive approach before being run out.

Jaiswal struggles again after promising start in Sri Lanka

Jaiswal’s latest failure came after he had also been dismissed for a duck during India’s three-day warm-up game against Sri Lanka Cricket XI in Colombo. He did manage to recover in the second innings of that match, scoring an unbeaten 61. However, conditions in Galle were different during India’s second innings.

The surface had become rougher, allowing the ball to grip and turn more than it did earlier in the game. Jaiswal attempted to repeat his aggressive approach but failed to account for the additional turn. His early departure handed Sri Lanka valuable momentum and put greater responsibility on India’s remaining batters to build a substantial lead.
