Sanju Samson had plenty of reasons to smile after his explosive performance against Afghanistan, but one message from home made the night even more special. The India wicketkeeper-batter’s wife, Charulatha Remesh, shared a heartwarming reaction after Samson smashed a breathtaking 57 in the second T20I in New Delhi.
Samson produced one of India’s most entertaining batting displays on Tuesday, September 15, as the hosts chased down Afghanistan’s 159-run target with ease. His blistering knock came at a crucial time, with the Kerala batter under the spotlight following a difficult run of form.
Sanju Samson shines with 57 off 22 balls
Walking out to open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, Samson wasted little time in making his presence felt. He hammered 57 runs from just 22 deliveries, striking seven fours and four sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 259.09.
The right-hander’s aggressive approach immediately put Afghanistan’s bowlers under pressure. He and Abhishek added 88 runs in just 6.2 overs, giving India the perfect platform in the chase.
Samson brought up his half-century from only 20 balls, underlining just how quickly he shifted the momentum of the contest. His innings eventually ended when Rashid Khan dismissed him, but by then the damage had already been done.
India completed the chase in only 14.5 overs, winning by seven wickets and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Charulatha’s heartwarming reaction to Samson’s innings
While cricket fans celebrated Samson’s return to form, his wife Charulatha also joined in the celebrations. She shared a heartwarming Instagram story after the match, offering a personal touch to what was already a memorable evening for the Indian batter.
“Thangam Sir.”
Charulatha has regularly been a source of support for Samson throughout his cricket journey. The couple, who met during their college days, got married in 2018 and have often shared glimpses of their life away from the cricket spotlight.
Her latest reaction came at an important moment for Samson. The batter had faced questions over his consistency and place in India’s T20I setup after a series of low scores. The 57 against Afghanistan therefore meant more than just another half-century.

Samson answers critics in style

The pressure surrounding his position made his response even more impressive. Rather than attempting to play a cautious innings, Samson stuck to his aggressive method and attacked Afghanistan from the beginning.
After the match, Samson also spoke candidly about dealing with outside criticism. He acknowledged that cricketers are human and that external noise can have an impact, even when players try to shut it out.
