Mohamed Salah scored his first goals for new club Trabzonspor, netting a brace in their 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir.

The former Liverpool forward, who joined the Super Lig side on a two-year deal at the start of August and made his debut last week, opened his account after eight minutes at Papara Park. 

The visitors levelled in the 19th minute when Eldor Shomurodov struck from the penalty spot, but Salah restored his side’s lead just three minutes after the restart. 

The 34-year-old was booked for simulation after having a penalty appeal waived away. Then, in the closing stages of the game, the Egyptian hit an audacious effort from more than 40 yards with the Basaksehir goalkeeper all at sea. 

However, this time the offside flag denied Salah a hat-trick, in what looked to be an incredibly tight call. 

In the end, Salah’s goal proved enough to clinch victory for Trabzonspor, who are back in Super Lig action on August 31 against Amed SK.

Salah spent the best part of a decade at Anfield before departing this summer. In that time, he endeared himself to the Reds faithful, netting more than 250 goals for the club and becoming their all-time leading Premier League goalscorer.

He captained Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, where the African nation made history be reaching the Round of 16 for the very first time, narrowly falling 3-2 to eventual finalists Argentina in what was one of the games of the tournament.
