Netflix’s charming romance series Sweet Magnolias has quietly become one of the streamer’s biggest hits, and now it has been renewed for season5. Based on the novels by Sherryl Woods and debuting back in 2020, the series concerns a trio of life-long friends who live in a picturesque town in South Carolina. While trying to tend to their own families and careers, the group supports each other through the many ups and downs that life throws at them. Beloved for its low-stakes drama, Sweet Magnolias has already amassed an impressive run on Netflix as its moved through its past seasons.
Season 4 of Sweet Magnolias returns to Serenity, and catches up with the ensemble after a short time jump. Though the usual romance, twists, and turns are all there, the titular Magnolias were starting to deal with their rapidly changing lives. The ending of Sweet Magnolias season 4 sees the main characters all in new places (both literally and figuratively) and that sets the stage for a fifth season that is exciting and unique as well. Sweet Magnolias season 5 will take a big swing, bringing new cast members, new locations, and new drama into the mix for the Magnolias.
Sweet Magnolias Season 5 Releases June 11 On Netflix
Though Sweet Magnolias season 5 took some time to get a renewal from Netflix after the previous season had struggles in public viewership, the series has had a strong hold over its audience as the new season’s been teased. The upcoming season of Sweet Magnolias will feature 10 episodes and continue seeing showrunner/executive producer Sheryl J. Anderson in her dual role, with some major changes coming for the series. Sweet Magnolias season 5 features new stories, new cast members, and will even feature an epic storyline in New York City as Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) finds her way forward.
While the series took some time to renew and film, Sweet Magnolias season 5’s release was a no-brainer. Though the show’s schedule has varied in the past, over the course of the last year, Sweet Magnolias has seemed to find its groove. Releasing all 10 episodes of its fifth season to Netflix viewers on June 11, Sweet Magnolias will return just in time for the perfect summertime binge to enjoy, of course, with a margarita and a great group of friends. While there’s yet to be word about another season of the series, Sweet Magnolias season 5 will be exciting.
Sweet Magnolias Season 5 Cast Details
The large ensemble cast of Sweet Magnolias is perhaps the show’s strongest aspect, and an exciting group of new faces will be joining in on the fun of the Netflix show moving forward. While there are new cast members coming, two of the show’s foundational members won’t be coming back for another season in Serenity. After his untimely death during Sweet Magnolias season 4, Chris Klein won’t be returning to the series as Bill, Maddie’s ex-husband. While his departure wasn’t a surprise, another actor’s was. Carson Rowland, who played Maddie’s oldest son Ty, will also be sadly leaving Sweet Magnolias.
While there are going to be some missing from the upcoming season, Sweet Magnolias season 5 is welcoming some exciting new faces to the cast. Jamie-Lynn Sigler will play a new friend of Maddie’s in New York, a writer named Nell Winters. Back in Serenity, new characters will include Miss Eustice, played by Janice Wesley, Ronnie’s new business partner Courtney Sinclair (Courtney Grace), and Clark Bellson (John Gabriel Rodriquez), a rival business owner, among others. The new characters will complicate the Magnolia’s lives in many ways, but their friendship will surely keep them tightly knit together even when they’re apart.
What To Expect From Sweet Magnolias Season 5
Season 4 of Sweet Magnolias had a lot of catching up to do, and after a time jump between seasons 3 and 4, there were already some big changes in Serenity. However, as things progressed, a clearer picture of season 5’s potential storylines was painted by the season finale. The most pressing issue that will need to be explored in season 5 is Maddie’s move to NYC, and the trailer reveals the show will take on the challenge. The move helps to fulfill her career ambitions, but will also take her far away from Serenity, and her life-long friends.
With so much change happening around Serenity, it’s clear that Sweet Magnolias season 5 will be a brand-new chapter for the series and explore the world beyond South Carolina. As we follow Maddie to NYC and open the door for brand-new friendships or loves in a whole new place, the world that’s grown in Serenity won’t be going anywhere. The show will feature exciting developments in both places, and bring a group of new faces into the mix for even bigger stories that could potentially push Sweet Magnolias into a whole new era. The series promises an exciting new season.
