Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Next-Gen Update Has Gamers Asking For One Fix

Despite being considered a modern-day classic, Red Dead Redemption 2 is yet to receive a next-gen remaster. Put simply, it is not in desperate need of one, with the 2015 action-adventure title by Rockstar still standing the test of time when it comes to graphics, and you only need to spend five minutes on social media to see people use it as the magnum opus of attention to detail in video games.

However, with technology fast advancing and the PlayStation 5 rapidly approaching the end of its lifespan, it is titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 which will see customers flocking to purchase that next-gen upgrade.

Generating US$725 million in sales from its opening weekend, and exceeding the lifetime sales of Red Dead Redemption within eight days, Red Dead Redemption 2 was an instant success and there is no doubt that its next-gen remaster would perform just as well. With such upgrades offering improved graphics and performance, as well as bonus content if we are so lucky, it is something that fans are all too eager for.

Earlier this year, one fan took to r/reddeadredemption to ask one simple question, “If the rumors are true and RDR2 is getting a PS5 upgrade, are you expecting them to also fix epilogue John’s character model?”

The question is, of course, referring to the fact that players will take on the role of John Marston following the main events in Red Dead Redemption 2. However, it is John’s model that left a lot to the imagination and certainly did not look as graphically enhanced as Arthur did. As such, could a potential remaster give John a much-needed makeover?

Well, fans quickly flocked to the comments to share their thoughts. “I played the first game several times before RDR2. I was perfectly fine with John in the epilogue, except you could never get his default hairstyle. It was only until this sub that it was pointed out a bunch of times did I start being a little dissatisfied with the model. Most players simply won’t notice,” one user shared.

However, another user offered an interesting tidbit. “I remember seeing a short sometime where the voice actor for John was talking about how John runs weirdly in RDR2, and then he said he realized that’s how he runs in real life. Some light googling seems to claim he did MoCap for RDR1 as well. If you look at comparisons between Arthur and John, they have completely different body movements. I do not disagree that playable John’s face is different than NPC John’s face. Playable John looks like Arthur wearing John’s skin.”

At the time of writing, Rockstar has not confirmed an official next-gen remaster for Red Dead Redemption 2, but with remasters and remakes all the rage right now, it is no doubt it will be around the corner.
