With Rockstar currently fully dedicated to the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, its Red Dead Redemption franchise has been firmly left in the dust. However, thanks to a dedicated fanbase, Red Dead Redemption 2 still boasts a large playerbase, with many flocking back to the award-winning action-adventure title, whilst others opt to play its Red Dead Online addition.
Whilst Red Dead Redemption 2 may not have welcomed any major updates over the past few years, including a next-gen update that we have all been pleading for, Red Dead Online most certainly has, with Rockstar releasing monthly events, limited-time cosmetics and rewards to the multiplayer title since it was first launched back in 2018.
However, as mentioned, it is Red Dead Redemption 2 itself that fans want to see receive some love, and whilst Rockstar may be reluctant to do so, its fans are quite the opposite. One such example of this is the Next-Gen DualSense Features for RDR2 mod.
Created by NodixTech over on Nexus Mods, this free-to-download mod was added back in June, and already boasts over 600 downloads, proving just how many fans want to see a next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Although it does not change the game itself, the Next-Gen DualSense Features for RDR2 mod “brings the true power of your PlayStation 5 DualSense controller to Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC!” Created to seamlessly integrate DualSenseX (DSX), it will allow the DualSense controller to adopt “realistic Adaptive Triggers and dynamic Lightbar feedback tailored specifically to RDR2‘s gameplay mechanics.”
With the mod description offering a step-by-step guide on how to install it, you need not worry if you are a stranger to the modding world. However, the mod’s main aim is to make gameplay, and especially the gun combat, feel a lot more realistic thanks to custom trigger resistance. As such, every weapon in the game has now had a makeover with the following changes made:
- Repeaters & Rifles: Heavier, satisfying mechanical resistance.
- Revolvers & Pistols: Sharp, responsive trigger pulls.
- Shotguns & Snipers: Extremely stiff, heavy pulls with a powerful snap.
- Bow & Arrow: Feel the tension of the bowstring build up. The trigger vibrates only when the string is fully drawn and ready to release!
Additionally, and perhaps most exciting, is weapon degradation. Put simply, how dirty or broken your weapon is will affect the DualSense controller itself. “For the first time ever, the condition of your weapon physically affects your controller!” The description continues. “If your gun is dirty, covered in soot, or degraded, the trigger pull becomes noticeably heavier and stiffer. Maintain your weapons at the Gunsmith or use Gun Oil to restore that smooth, factory-new trigger pull.”
These are just some of the quality-of-life changes that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been in need of since it was first released back in 2018, and what will truly make it a next-gen title. Rockstar may not have released this update officially, but this free mod is definitely the next best thing.
