PSG provide update on Vitinha blow after title race setback

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha will be assessed later this week after the midfielder suffered a foot injury in their defeat to Lyon on Sunday.

PSG were dealt a surprise setback in the Ligue 1 title race as they were stunned at home by Paulo Fonseca’s side.

Goals from Endrick from Afonso Moreira sealed the victory for Lyon, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s injury-time goal nothing more than a consolation.

Vitinha injury doubles PSG pain

The defeat means PSG are just a point above surprise package Lens, though they have played a game fewer. Luis Enrique’s side visit Lens in their penultimate league game of the season.

Vitinha was forced off in the 40th minute and replaced by Warren Zaire-Emery, and he is set to miss Wednesday’s game with Nantes as a result of his injury.

An update on PSG’s website read: “Having suffered inflammation in his right heel after picking up a knock against Lyon last night, Vitinha will remain on the treatment table over the next few days, with a further assessment to be made towards the end of the week.”

PSG visit Angers on Saturday before taking on Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.

The tie with Bayern will naturally be given precedence, so Vitinha will seemingly be unlikely to feature against Angers regardless of his recovery.

Vitinha has been a critical part of PSG’s success under Luis Enrique. He has seven goals and 10 assists this season, with six of his strikes coming in the Champions League.
