The announcement of Pokémon Winds and Waves as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations for the franchise was undoubtedly an exciting moment, as fans finally got their first look at Generation 10. There’s definitely something special about the arrival of a whole new gen of releases, not least the new creatures we get to collect and battle.
Though almost all of the new ‘mons announced as part of a new generation are entirely original, historically, we have seen plenty added into existing evolutionary lines. The most obvious example of that is Eevee, who has accrued plenty of forms over the years, with those evolutions serving as some of the most popular designs in the game to date.
We aren’t sure yet, but rumors had been swirling that the tenth generation could serve as the staging ground for a new Eeveelution, but it seems as though that speculation could well have been premature.
Over on Twitter/X, the user Centro LEAKS, who has become known for providing insight into what’s going on behind the scenes at Nintendo, shared a post which could come as a concern to those who want new Eeveelutions. It cites new rumors that we might not be getting one after all, almost exactly four years since similar leaks emerged around Gen 9.
“Funny how 4 years ago this week it was also leaked thst there would be no new Eevee evolution during Gen 9. And now this week we have a rumor about no new Eevee evolution during Gen 10,” the post reads.
It would certainly come as disappointing news to many, and there were plenty who wanted to share their own opinions on that potential future.
“Billion dollar franchise can’t create a unique Eeveelution LOL, what are they scared of?” one comment read.
“I hate how they stopped making new Eevee forms all because they found fakemon art of a Flying type they wanted. There are more types than just Flying. They could’ve continued with other typings or done something more unique for a Flying type that doesn’t involve wings or clouds,” another added.
Pokémon Winds and Waves is set to launch next year at some point, though we should hopefully hear more about Game Freak’s plans for the new games long before then. Part of that will be confirmation of the game’s exact Pokédex, which is when we’ll finally get confirmation on whether we are getting a new Eeveelution or not.
