Introducing the Terastal phenomenon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is seemingly one of the best decisions by Game Freak in recent years as it is a gameplay feature that is continuing to draw fans in almost four years on from the game’s initial launch.
Allowing Pokémon to transform into dedicated “Tera Types”, complete with new weaknesses, strengths, and attack power, players had another level of collecting to worry about, especially if they wished to come out on top of any Pokémon battle. Not only that, but with Tera Types comes Tera Raids, a co-op battle in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet that allows players to work together to defeat a single, albeit powerful Pokémon, in exchange for heaps of limited-time rewards.
Since its launch back in 2022, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has hosted its fair share of Tera Raids, offering players post-game content that is still bringing in the numbers to this day. Now, in August, another Tera Raid has begun, and this time, players will need to come together to battle Annihilape and its pre-evolutions. Arriving alongside the Mass Outbreak event, the latest Tera Raid runs from August 14 through August 20, 2026, at 23:59 UTC with the latest boss being a Ghost Tera Type Annihilape with the Mightiest Mark. They will appear in the 7-star Tera Raid Battle, with the level 100 ‘mon boasting the Defiant Ability. It will be no easy fight, but the rewards, including Ghost Tera Shards, Exp. Candy, Protein, and an Ability Patch, and more, will definitely speak for themselves.
Whilst the Ghost Tera Type Annihilape can be fought multiple times, it can only be caught once per save file, so make sure you bear this information in mind before you attempt any farming. Additionally, you will have to make sure that you have downloaded the latest Poké Portal News and have the latest update data installed to participate in the brand-new Pokémon Scarlet & Violet event.
There is no doubt that the Terastal phenomenon plays a large role in why Pokémon Scarlet & Violet continues to boast a dedicated playerbase to this day, as recent Pokémon entries have been labeled “stale” by its fanbase. However, having regular post-game events that result in limited-time ‘mons is definitely the correct step by Game Freak, and is a formula that they should continue in the future.
The future in question is not too far away as Pokémon’s Gen 10 will begin with the launch of Pokémon Winds and Waves in 2027. Whilst information remains scarce on the next mainline Pokémon entry, it is expected to be the biggest yet, and with at least 100 new ‘mon expected to be added to the roster, we are not ready for what the future holds 30-years on from the launch of the original Pokémon game.
