PlayStation Plus Free Game Is A 10/10 Masterpiece That Needs A Sequel

There are so many exceptional games on PlayStation Plus that, in recent years, it has truly felt like the service is worth paying for. Previously, as it was still finding its feet, one could easily argue that, especially when compared to its direct Xbox-focused counterpart, PlayStation Plus was simply not worth the fee, even at its lowest cost. It lacked the necessary games to entice newcomers and offered few benefits for those who remained loyal.

However, today, there are so many great games on PlayStation Plus, with even more on the horizon. Indeed, one of its best, a long-term mainstay that fans unequivocally agree is a true masterpiece and worth the monthly subscription cost alone, remains a great addition to PS+ and a game that everyone should experience at least once. It is also a game that is in dire need of a sequel, a project that many have long anticipated but may be waiting an eternity before it surfaces.

This PS Plus Game Is Truly Worth Playing

It is easy to look to the recently added monthly PS Plus titles when one is subscribed to the service, rather than the abundance of great titles that have remained a facet of it for so long and feel as if they’ll be there indefinitely. I cannot blame you, especially when these new monthly games have been so enticing as of late, with many offering genuinely captivating experiences that are worth delving into and, at times, are even better than many of the existing games on the platform.

However, if you haven’t already, I beseech you to at least try Bloodborne, the undisputed classic from developer FromSoftware that continues to enjoy an eternally enduring legacy, one that has profoundly affected players in ways developers could only dream of. Bloodborne is, of course, an excellent soulslike, its penchant for tantalizing lore and a fascinatingly grim location paving the way for creatively designed bosses and ambiguous storytelling that oozes with atmosphere.

Bloodborne’s gameplay is also beautifully designed, perfectly poised to both placate long-term fans of the genre and usher in a new wave of fans of Lovecraft and gothic literature. Much has been said about its excellent qualities, which is largely why the demand for a Bloodborne sequel is so raucously high, with fans and those merely fascinated with its world crying out for FromSoftware to devise an equally brilliant follow-up to satiate their bottomless appetite. However, as much as Bloodborne categorically deserves a sequel, it seems unlikely it’ll ever get one.

Bloodborne Deserves A Sequel, But It Won’t Ever Get One

It would make sense, financially, for FromSoftware to make a sequel to Bloodborne. The demand is certainly there, with the original game having sold upwards of 9 million copies, and the potential for innovation is also ever present, with FromSoftware’s many mechanical and narrative advancements seen across its most recent titles illustrating its ability to shift with the times and offer fans something familiar yet altogether refreshing.

However, as aforementioned, a sequel seems unlikely at best. The blame doesn’t, rather surprisingly, lie with its publisher and IP rights holder, Sony Interactive Entertainment, as much as one may suspect. Indeed, it appears that Sony is all for a remake, sequel, or remaster, whichever it can get out the door and into the hands of the paying public faster. Rather, the blame lies with FromSoftware, more specifically the game’s director and creator of the soulslike, Hidetaka Miyazaki, who, according to reports, allegedly doesn’t want anyone else touching the game and has no interest in making more entries for it.

A Bloomberg report from the ever-reliable Jason Schreier claimed that Bluepoint approached Sony about a Bloodborne remake, but was ultimately denied by FromSoftware from going ahead with the project. While the developer is no stranger to sequels, it has, as of late, opted to create new IPs and steered firmly away from the expected. It seems unlikely then that Bloodborne will ever get a sequel, and even if it does, it certainly won’t be for quite some time. Fortunately, in the potentially eternal interim, we can all enjoy Bloodborne for free via PlayStation Plus, where it will likely remain forever.
