Hat-trick hero Milan Iloski was thrilled that the Philadelphia Union “set the standard” in their 4-2 victory over Orlando City SC in MLS on Saturday.

Philadelphia were missing some of their young United States stars, including Cavan Sullivan, but Iloski stepped up with a brilliant hat-trick in 51 minutes, with Indiana Vassilev also getting on the scoresheet.

The 27-year-old’s first goal came from the penalty spot before Vassilev set up his other two on either side of getting on the scoresheet himself.

Orlando attempted a late fightback, with Ivan Angulo scoring their first goal in the 78th minute before Martin Ojeda netted their second in the 90th minute.

Philadelphia were dominant in their victory and moved up to sixth in the Eastern Conference after a sixth consecutive win that stretched their unbeaten streak to 12 games.

“A lot of hard work. We made sure we set that standard first,” Iloski, who became only the third player in Philadelphia’s history to score multiple hat-tricks in the same season, told Apple TV.

“Of course, scoring a hat-trick is great. But a lot of guys really stepped up and played really well.

“So, it is a full team effort, and we really showed our depth. It is a big performance for the team.”

Philadelphia also entered the MLS record books thanks to their post-World Cup form, having racked up 32 points over their last 12 games, matching the Seattle Sounders for the most points in any 12-game span in league history.

The Sounders also came out on top, with a 3-1 victory over Minnesota United, moving them up to ninth in the Western Conference.

Jordan Morris, Hassani Dotson and Paul Arriola were all on target for Seattle, with the former’s acrobatic 16th-minute finish making him the club’s outright top scorer in the regular season (73).

It was also a historic win for Brian Schmetzer, who became the third-fastest head coach to reach 150 wins in MLS history (334 games, behind Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley).

And there was another landmark to celebrate, this time for Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar, who scored his 100th MLS goal thanks to a first-half brace in their 2-0 win over Toronto FC.

He is just the 16th player in league history to reach a century, and the first German-born player to do so, while Nashville currently sit 14 points clear at the top of the East ahead of Inter Miami playing on Sunday.

Vancouver Whitecaps, meanwhile, remain top of the West despite a 3-3 draw with D.C. United, sitting three points clear of FC Dallas in second.

Dallas beat Los Angeles FC 1-0 to leapfrog their closest challengers, taking advantage of Houston Dynamo’s 2-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City.
