One Of The Greatest Sports Team Of All Time Has Its Own Netflix TV Show

One of the greatest sports teams of all time now has a miniseries on Netflix just in time for the summer of 2026. Netflix has great sports documentaries that have totally changed the way we think about certain athletic leagues. Take Formula 1: Drive to Survive and its impact on the sport, and the Michael Jordan documentary that reminded people what it means to be “great”.

Netflix also has a knack for producing great foreign language fare, and if you are looking for a show or a movie in something other than English, Netflix is often your best first option. So a foreign language sports series feels right at home on the streamer, and as a miniseries, one sports series hits all the areas that Netflix excels at.

Brazil ‘70: The Third Star is a drama series that dropped on Netflix on May 29, 2026, and tells the story of arguably one of the greatest sports teams of all time. A Brazilian production, the series is in Portuguese and is five episodes long, and while there isn’t a Rotten Tomatoes score yet, it will likely catch on as we move into the summer.

Brazil ’70: The Third Star Tells The Story Of Pele’s 3rd World Cup Win

Brazil ’70: The Third Star follows the incredible season of the 1970 Brazilian World Cup team, with their 14 games throughout the tournament captured on screen. Set in Mexico, where the 1970 World Cup took place, Brazil ’70 follows a team made up of several players ranked among the all-time greats in the sport, including a front five of Jairzinho, Pelé, Gérson, Tostão, and Rivellino.

The series is worth watching for the history lesson alone, with the 1970 team an Avengers-like squad of the best of the best. Everyone has nicknames and specialties on the field, and though we don’t know exactly what was said and done off the pitch, Brazil ’70 offers enough fiction to make viewers care just a little more about a story where we already know the outcome.

Brazil ’70 is by no means an underdog tale, and that “Third Star” in the title refers to the country’s third win in the tournament. The team dominated opponents on their way to victory, and the final against Italy was close in the first half, but Brazil quickly pulled away, eventually winning 4 to 2.

Netflix’s 1970 World Cup Miniseries Comes At The Perfect Time

This miniseries is coming at the perfect time, as the 2026 World Cup is set to kick off on June 11, 2026, with the final commencing on July 19, 2026. The series will be hosted by 16 cities in Mexico, the United States, and in Canada. This is also the first time there have been more than 32 teams in the tournament, with 48 set to play.

Brazil will once again appear in the World Cup, continuing its legacy as the only team to make every World Cup edition without any absences or need for playoffs. It remains one of the most successful teams of all time as well, with five tournament wins and an overall record of 76 wins and 19 losses.

Despite being one of the most storied teams in the tournament, the last few tournaments have been difficult for Brazil, and the team has not advanced past the quarter-final stage in four of the last five tournaments. Still, this is Brazil, and while they may not have the unbeatable super team of Brazil ’70: The Third Star, they’re still not a team you want to overlook.
