Official Fable Update Has Fans Fearing A Delay

Players are fearing that the release of Fable will see a delay, even if it hasn’t been formally announced, following an official update posted by the development team. Currently scheduled for release in Fall 2026, the new title will be a reboot for the classic fantasy action RPG series, honoring both its legacy and the new vision for the future of the franchise. Not much about the game has actually been shown, but there have already been leaks showing the sheer size of Fable’s map, for example, hinting at what may be a massive experience.

Even so, there is some concern about when it will be released. The development team made a post on the official Fable account on X, with an image depicting a castle. The post highlights that this is Bowerstone, “the beating heart of Albion.” The team also mentions that Bowerstone is an area filled with opinions, likely coming from its inhabitants. Despite the new lore drop, some players have expressed that they are worried about the game getting delayed.

As seen in the comment section in the post, some users are concerned about it not arriving in Fall 2026, as is the scheduled release window for Fable. User Last Chalice, for instance, replies to the post, questioning the team’s opinion on a release in 2026. Similarly, user Chase says that they don’t believe that the game is real “until I see actual gameplay, not snippets.” These players seem to be concerned about the state of development, as not much promotional material has been released.

In January, Playground Games revealed a few more details about Fable, such as property acquisition, the morality system, character customization, and alternating combat styles. Despite this, some players seem to want extended gameplay footage to check its quality and status. User EZ22EZ believes that there is “no way” the game isn’t getting a delay, highlighting that the “combat looked so unfinished.

A house by the road in the Fable reboot

For now, it’s pretty hard to determine whether or not the game will be pushed back. Playground Games hasn’t hinted at that possibility, and in spite of the lack of more promotional material, the game could very well still be many months away from release – Fall 2026 runs between mid-September and mid-December, this year. As such, the team may be focusing mostly on the release of Forza Horizon 6 this month, and may start gearing up for Fable’s promotional period and polishing in the months to come.

Granted, the players’ concerns are valid, though the game is still currently in development, and there may be several tweaks and extensions to be made. Given that this is one of 2026’s most anticipated video games, we might be seeing more of it during Summer Game Fest next month, so it’s likely a matter of being patient to see what Playground Games is doing for Fable.
