Odell Beckham Jr signs for Minnesota Vikings practice squad

Veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr has signed for the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad as he looks to revive his NFL career.

The 33-year-old was officially added to the practice squad on Wednesday alongside Jeshaun Jones, handing the three-time Pro Bowler another opportunity to prove himself at the highest level.

Minnesota moved for Beckham after an ankle injury sustained by franchise star Justin Jefferson. Jordan Addison has shouldered the majority of the receiving load in Jefferson’s absence, but Kevin O’Connell’s side have struggled for depth in recent weeks with no other receiver on the roster managing more than two receptions.

The move also reunites Beckham with Vikings head coach O’Connell, who served as offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams during their 2021 Super Bowl-winning campaign.

Selected 12th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, Beckham exploded onto the scene with one of the most prolific starts to a career in modern NFL history.

He was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014, famously grabbing global headlines with an iconic, backward-falling, three-finger touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys.

Following a trade to the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and a subsequent move to the Rams midway through the 2021 campaign, Beckham played an instrumental role in Los Angeles’ championship run, scoring two postseason touchdowns including the opening score of Super Bowl LVI.

However, Beckham’s career trajectory has been heavily disrupted by a catalogue of serious injuries. A fractured left ankle prematurely ended his 2017 season in New York, and he later suffered a torn ACL in his left knee while playing for Cleveland in October 2020.

During the second quarter of Super Bowl LVI with the Rams, Beckham cruelly tore the same ACL once again, ruling him out for the entire 2022 season. Following subsequent spells with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 and the Miami Dolphins in 2024, Beckham returned to the Giants ahead of the 2026 campaign.

His second stint in New York proved fleeting, as he managed just 19 offensive snaps across three games without a single reception before being released on 29 September.

The Vikings will be back in action this weekend when they travel to face the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome on Sunday.
