Spider-Noir debuts Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly, and after the Marvel hero’s first set of adventures, fans will be able to get more of Cage as Spider-Man in the next year. Cage is an actor with incredible versatility, known for his ability to truly lose himself inside the characters that he plays. If there is something he is not, that is afraid.
Cage is always open to taking big swings, and on Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, those become literal. All eight episodes of the 2026 Prime Video series have now been released on the streaming service, putting The Spider, this standalone universe’s version of Spider-Man, up against several villains from the Marvel hero’s Rogues’ Gallery from the comics.
Still, even though it was exciting to watch villains like Sandman, Silvermane, Tombstone, and more, as well as new takes on Black Cat and Robbie Robertson, the most captivating character in Spider-Noir is undoubtedly Ben Reilly. Cage is completely freed to do as he pleases as this aging private investigator. There is even an episode where he moves like a spider.
For such a long-running franchise, with several Spider-Man movies following Peter Parker’s adventures, Ben Reilly’s weirdness in Spider-Noir was refreshing. Sadly, at the time of writing, there is no official confirmation that Spider-Noir season 2 will happen. However, fans of the show can rest knowing that, either way, Cage will be back as Spider-Man in 2027.
Nicolas Cage Returns As His First Spider-Man In 2027
The next year will see Cage return to his roots in terms of the Spider-Man franchise. After all, before he gave life to Ben Reilly in Spider-Noir, he voiced a version of Peter Parker in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That character went by Spider-Man Noir, being closer to the hero’s original alternate self from the comics, whereas Spider-Noir takes more liberties. Despite both superheroes being based on the same character, the new Prime Video series exists in its own world, completely separate from all the Marvel movies and shows that were released before it.
Prime Video’s Spider-Man Series Spider-Noir Officially Marks The Start Of An Era For Black Cat
Black Cat appears in Spider-Man’s new live-action series, and the 2026 global smash hit finally starts a much-needed new era for the Marvel character.
Although the actor did not return in Miles Morales’ second animated adventure on the big screen, Cage’s Spider-Man Noir had a non-speaking cameo at the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, teased to appear in the trilogy finale as part of Gwen Stacy’s team to rescue Miles. Based on that, fans can get ready to see Cage as Spider-Man Noir when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse releases on June 25, 2027. Hopefully, the animated Spider-Man movie will not be delayed again, allowing audiences to catch Cage as Spider-Man Noir 396 days after Prime Video’s Spider-Noir was released.
Why Spider-Noir Season 2 Needs To Happen
Cage’s return in the third Spider-Verse movie is something that many are excited about, but that must not be his only Marvel future. Spider-Noir season 2 needs to happen after the first eight episodes of the show introduced a unique, gritty world with a dark detective story at its center. Taking place in 1930s New York City, and with Ben having already fought in World War I, Spider-Noir season 2 could fast-forward to another global conflict, exploring what it means to be Spider-Man — The Spider — during World War II, something showrunner Oren Uziel told ScreenRant he wants to tackle.
It is true that Spider-Noir season 1’s ending did not have any clear setup for where the show could go. However, there is a treasure trove of characters from the comics for the Prime Video superhero series to adapt in season 2. Villains like Green Goblin, Hammerhead, Mister Negative, and more would fit right in. With Cat Hardy out of the picture, perhaps the Prime Video series could also explore romantic interests like Mary Jane Watson, Liz Allan, Gwen Stacy, and more. It is safe to say that the potential is endless, and more Spider-Noir would be a welcome event.
