Modern Horror Icon Kyle Gallner Teams With Weapons Producer For New Monster Movie

Kyle Gallner is returning to the horror genre, but this time he won’t be only working in front of the camera.

Deadline reveals that Gallner has his next project, with a new monster horror movie called Man Vs., but the actor is doing more than just starring in it. The trade reveals that he also wrote the film, making it his first writing credit.

V/H/S/Beyond’s Justin Martinez has been tapped to direct Gallner’s monster thriller, which is being executive produced by Ben Ross and Josh Goldbloom, as well as Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The survival thriller also has Weapons’ Roy Lee and Insidious’ Steven Schneider attached as producers.

The official Man Vs. synopsis describes the movie as follows: “Betrayed and left to die in an unforgiving Rocky Mountain winter, an injured gold rush miner (Gallner) must use everything at his disposal to survive the elements, wild animals and a looming, ancient danger far more terrifying than anything he could imagine.”

Martinez gave the following statement about Gallner’s dual role on the project: “Man Vs has everything I love in a survival movie and takes it to another level. Kyle has written a fantastic creature feature and I’m excited to bring it to life for the world.”

Mister Smith Entertainment SVP of sales and acquisitions, Shane Kelly, praised Man Vs. in a separate comment: “We are looking for sheer excellence and originality in the genre films that we take on, and Kyle’s wild vision for Man Vs. is exactly that. With Justin at the helm and surrounded by the producers of some of the most original horror fare in recent memory, this is going to be a must-see theatrical thrill ride.”

The 39-year-old star has had his fair share of various horror roles in the past, as Gallner starred in Smile and Smile 2, which became box office hits for Paramount Pictures. He also appeared in 2022’s Scream, portraying Vince Schneider, and was featured in 2010’s Nightmare on Elm Street reboot.

The Smallville alum’s entry in the horror genre began all the way back in 2009, as Gallner was part of The Haunting in Connecticut and Jennifer’s Body casts. Man Vs. currently doesn’t have a set release date.
