Michael Carrick on Bruno Fernandes’ fitness

Carrick on Fernandes’ fitness

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has erased any concerns over Bruno Fernandes‘ fitness ahead of the Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on the road tomorrow.

Fernandes has had a mixed start to the campaign with the Red Devils, and he has not scored or assisted in his last four league matches.

The 32-year-old looked a shadow of himself against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and was one of the worst players on the pitch.

Carrick has now clarified that Fernandes has had some fitness issues, but he is still in good shape and ready for tomorrow’s match.

He said: “Right now it’s not a major deal, he’s in good shape and he was really bright this morning, looking forward to the game.”

Fernandes has been ever-present in the starting XI for United and he is expected to captain the side from the number 10 role against Atletico.

United face a stern challenge against one of Europe’s most experienced sides. Atletico rarely lose in front of their fans in any competition.
