Real Madrid have confirmed that Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with hyperextension in his left knee.

Mbappe scored the winner for France in a narrow 1-0 victory over Turkiye, securing Zinedine Zidane a victory in his first match in charge.

However, he pulled up immediately after scoring and was taken off five minutes later, with France confirming that he had withdrawn from the squad to return to Madrid for treatment following the match.

France initially revealed their captain had suffered a tendon injury following the game, with Zidane saying “it’s not going well” when asked about it.

While Madrid have not revealed how long he will be sidelined for, Spanish media are reporting he is only set for around two weeks on the sidelines.

Mbappe has already netted six goals in LaLiga this season, making him the first player to score that many goals in Madrid’s opening five league matches since Karim Benzema in 2021-22 (also six).

It remains to be seen if he will be available for their first match after the international break against Villarreal on October 10.

Madrid then face Roma in the Champions League four days later before welcoming Sevilla to the Bernabeu the following weekend.
