Wai Ching Ho has died at the age of 82.

To American audiences, the Hong Kong actor is best known for playing the major villain Madame Gao in Marvel’s Daredevil season 1, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. Additionally, she voiced Grandma Wu in Pixar’s 2022 movie Turning Red, which has an impressive 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Daredevil star Peter Shinkoda, who played Nobu in season 1, shared the news of Ho’s passing on Instagram, where he wrote that “I won’t ever forget you. I learned every minute from you when we were together on and off set. We will meet again, my friend. You were beautiful.”

Mahira Kakkar, who performed with Ho in the National Asian American Theatre Company’s Henry VI production, commemorated her former co-star in an Instagram post as well, describing her performance as King Lear to be “riveting,” and praising the actor for being “a pillar,” “a stellar human,” and “a stellar artist.”

A cause of death was not disclosed in either of the tributes shared by Shinkoda or Kakkar.
