Marmoush´s stunner past Bournemouth wins Premier League award

Omar Marmoush’s remarkable strike against Bournemouth has been named as the Premier League’s Goal of the Season.

The Manchester City forward’s delightful effort at the Etihad Stadium on May 20 has claimed the 2024-25 competition’s prize, the league announced on Saturday.

Marmoush received a simple pass from Mateo Kovacic before bursting forward and unleashing a wicked right-footed drive into the top-left corner, which kissed the post of Kepa Arrizabalaga’s goal before going in.

The Egypt international beat off competition from Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Jhon Duran, Harry Wilson, Alexander Isak, David Brooks, Kaoru Mitoma, Carlos Baleba and Jens Cajuste.

That stunning finish saw Marmoush score his seventh Premier League goal, with all of them coming at the Etihad.

His run at home marks the joint-most goals a Man City player has scored in a campaign, with 100% of them coming at home, along with Samir Nasri in 2013-14.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt attacker scored three of his seven league goals for Pep Guardiola’s side from outside the box, providing ample competition and support for fellow striker Erling Haaland.

His opener against Bournemouth also ended Man City’s run of 54 shots without a goal in all competitions, since Kevin De Bruyne’s strike against Wolves earlier in May.

However, Marmoush’s long-range piledriver did not take away from a special occasion, as Man City waved farewell to De Bruyne with a 3-1 win that sent them on their way to Champions League qualification.

De Bruyne also created two chances in the game, taking his overall total in the Premier League to 846. Since Opta have this metric on record (2003-04), no player has created more (Cesc Fabregas also 846).
