Man Utd rejected loan offer for Zirkzee

Manchester United turned down the opportunity to loan out Joshua Zirkzee to Everton on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports.

The Toffees made a late approach for the Netherlands international after failing to secure an agreement with Monaco for Folarin Balogun.

Zirkzee was more than willing to entertain the proposal, but United made it clear that the Dutchman was unlikely to leave on such short notice.

United wanted a replacement in place for Zirkzee to depart on loan. With barely hours left, the club decided against sanctioning his departure.

Everton were prepared to pay £5.5m for a loan while covering his remaining wages for the season (£4.5m), but United had no plans to let him go.

Instead, they have decided to loan out young graduate Chido Obi to Dutch side Willem II to secure valuable first-team experience this term.

Zirkzee’s future could be reevaluated at the turn of the year. He could push for an exit if his playing time does not improve in the coming months.
