Manchester United have been told to pay £85 million to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils have already recruited Atalanta midfielder Ederson and he will formally join the club after his World Cup campaign with Brazil next month.

United are determined to bring in another top-class midfielder and have already spoken with Fernandes’ representatives about a summer transfer.

It is now reported that the Hammers have likewise held talks with the player’s entourage and have now negotiated a price tag of £85 million to part ways with him.

United are said to be reluctant to pay more than £40m for the Portuguese ace. Even if they change their stance, it is unlikely that they will offer more than £60m to sign him.

There is currently a huge difference in the valuation between the clubs. If West Ham stand firm on their valuation, United may look elsewhere to reinforce their midfield.
