Man Utd suffer midfield injury blow at World Cup

Mainoo injured at the World Cup?

Manchester United have suffered a fresh midfield injury blow with Kobbie Mainoo sustaining a setback during the World Cup.

The England international did not play a single minute at the tournament, but he picked up a back issue in the final training session.

Mainoo was initially expected to start in the third-place play-off against France, but did not make the matchday squad in the end.

In the post-match press conference, manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed bad news on Mainoo, and we should get a further update soon.

The United graduate played a big role during the second half of last season as the Red Devils finished third in the Premier League.

Mainoo is an undisputed starter under manager Michael Carrick and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit for the new season.

The club are also facing a nervous wait over the fitness of centre-back Lisandro Martinez, who was substituted in the World Cup final due to injury.
