Manchester United have suffered a major injury blow ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Red Devils had several injury setbacks during the 2025/26 season, but still qualified for the Champions League with a third-placed finish in the Premier League.
United are expected to fare better in the upcoming campaign, but it appears they could be without Martinez for several months after his untimely injury in the World Cup final.
The Argentine sustained an apparent knee injury before the half-time interval, and he was visibly distraught as Nicolas Otamendi replaced him in the heart of the backline.
Martinez will be away on a three-week break after the World Cup, but United will definitely be concerned regarding the Argentine’s fitness ahead of the new season next month.
The 28-year-old will be examined by the medical staff in the near future but the early signs from his reaction suggest that he could be sidelined for a substantial period of time.
